Introduction

As part of the requirement for acceptance to the Teacher Certification Program at New England College, students are required to submit a portfolio. The portfolio contains materials that attest to the applicants qualifications and ability to be a major in education. Creating an electronic portfolio will demonstrate these same qualifications in addition to providing evidence of the student's competence with technology in accordance with the National Educational Technology Standards.

This tutorial will:

  • examine the purposes of electronic portfolios
  • explore examples of student portfolios
  • provide guidelines in planning a portfolio
  • provide a step by step tutorial for creating an electronic portfolio
  • provide a portfolio rubric
  • list resources for further exploration of electronic portfolios

ISTE Standards for this learning packet:

  • B15 develop a portfolio of technology-based products from coursework, including the related assessment tools
  • B19 use technology productivity tools to complete required professional tasks
  • B18 participate in online professional collaboration with peers and experts as part of a personally designed plan, based on self-assessment, for professional growth in technology
  • B13  examine technology tools used to collect, analyze, interpret, represent, and communicate student performance data
